Robert Welp, a partner in Hogan Lovells’ Corporate Practice and Private Equity groups, practices in the areas of corporate, securities and transactional law, primarily on behalf of private investment funds and their portfolio companies. Welp advises private equity and venture capital firms in all aspects of their practice, including U.S. and cross-border investments, acquisitions and recapitalizations, and the dispositions of the portfolio companies. He has experience advising fund clients on private placements and fund formation matters (including SBIC funds), as well as significant experience representing private companies sponsored by private equity or venture capital firms in general corporate matters, acquisitions and financing transactions. His extensive transactional background has led to his representation of both private equity funds as well as public and private companies in acquisition growth strategies. He has experience in transactions in a number of regulated industries, including technology, media and telecommunications, real estate and government services, as well as health services and life sciences. Welp currently serves on the firm's private equity coordinating group. He is the former chairman of the District of Columbia Bar's M&A Committee and has been ranked by Chambers USA since 2008. Previously, Welp served as a judicial clerk for The Honorable Fortunato Benavides (now a member of the U.S. Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals), The Honorable Lawrence Meyers of the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals and The Honorable Thomas Reavley of the U.S. Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals.
