Dr. Jim Pettigrew

Dr. James E. Pettigrew is professor of animal sciences at the University of Illinois where he is engaged in research, teaching and outreach. He is a native of Illinois and earned a bachelor’s degree from Southern Illinois University and a master’s and doctorate in animal nutrition from the University of Illinois. Pettigrew was manager of swine research for the Moorman Manufacturing Company in Quincy, Illinois, for five years. He served as a faculty member at the University of Minnesota for 17 years, with a research emphasis on mathematical modeling and the connections between nutrition and reproduction. He eventually founded Pettigrew Consulting International LLC, working in several countries, especially within Latin America. He was recruited to the University of Illinois in 2001 through the Faculty Excellence Program. His current research emphasizes connections between diet and health, with special attention to gut bacteria.
